The Honda CR-V has developed quite a fan following over the last quarter-century (yes, the CR-V debuted in the US way back in 1997). You don’t last 20+ years in the ultra-competitive SUV market without earning a reputation for reliability, versatility, and quality. But still, something was missing… until now.

The team at Kuni Honda in Centennial is excited to announce the next evolution of the midsize-SUV pioneer: the 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid. From style and comfort to safety and best-ever fuel efficiency, the new CR-V Hybrid has it all.

What’s to love about the new CR-V Hybrid

The CR-V Hybrid is Honda's first-ever electrified vehicle with all-wheel drive, offering freedom to go more places and added control when the weather gets rough. The new hybrid also offers the Honda Sensing Suite® - the ultimate in safety and driver-assistive technologies – standard on all trim levels, including:

  • Collision Mitigation Braking System:Can help stop the vehicle by applying the brakes when a frontal collision can’t be avoided.
  • Lane Keeping Assist System:Adjust steering with subtle modifications to keep the vehicle centered in your lane.
  • Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow:Helps maintain a set following interval behind another vehicle, slowing or stopping automatically if the followed vehicle stops.
  • Road Departure Mitigation System:Can provide steering assistance or apply the brakes to keep the vehicle from leaving the road.

What’s new in the CR-V Hybrid vs. the gas-powered CR-V

With higher fuel efficiency and more power, the Honda CR-V Hybrid will allow you to venture even further between fill-ups, while giving you a uniquely enjoyable driving experience.

Car & Driver was impressed by the overall driving experience of the new CR-V Hybrid, celebrating its extra power and responsiveness: “The torque of the electric motor makes it feel livelier, especially in Sport mode, as the powertrain reacts to small accelerator inputs more quickly. Full-throttle acceleration feels about the same (the last CR-V we tested hit 60 mph in 7.6 seconds), but around town the CR-V Hybrid has a punchy quality” that one-ups the gas-powered CR-V.

By the numbers, here’s how the two sides of the same coin compare:

  • Fuel Efficiency: The CR-V AWD offers a 27 city/32 highway/29 combined mpg rating, while the CR-V Hybrid amps up the efficiency to a 40 city/35 highway/ 38 combined mpg rating.
  • Four Driving Modes: Sport, Econ, EV, and Normal are exclusive to the hybrid for an all-around customizable driving experience to fit your needs.
  • Enjoy More Horsepower with the CR-V Hybrid because of the pairing of the 2.0-liter, DOHC i-VTEC® Atkinson-cycle engine with an electric motor and e-CVT transmission. The hybrid offers 212 total system horsepower compared to the 190 horsepower of the gas-powered CR-V.

Head-to-head: CR-V Hybrid vs. Toyota RAV4 Hybrid

Comparing the Honda CR-V Hybrid EX to the rival Toyota RAV4 XLE Hybrid, you’ll find that the CR-V offers an edge in value, comfort, and safety. The Honda also offers many standard features that you need to upgrade or pay extra for with the Toyota.

  • The CR-V Hybrid offers 4 more cubic feet of passenger space, beating the RAV4 Hybrid, 102.9 to 98.9.
  • Remote Engine Start is standard feature on the CR-V Hybrid EX that costs extra on the RAV4 Hybrid XLE.
  • The CR-V Hybrid EX comes standard with heated front row seats with three temperature options. Be prepared to upgrade from the RAV4 XLE Hybrid to enjoy a similar level of comfort.
  • The one-touch power moonroof with tilt feature is standard on the CR-V Hybrid EX, but you must pay extra for it on the RAV4 XLE Hybrid.
