The All-New 2018 Honda Accord: A Classic Sedan (with a Twist)

After 41 years and more than 13 million models sold, the Honda Accord is still the sedan of choice for Americans. Now heading into its 10th generation, the 2018 Accord is as reliable, efficient, and fun to drive as any before it; but it’s also got a whole lot more than meets the eye.

Honda made sure to debut the new Accord with just the right amount of fanfare for a potentially groundbreaking vehicle. Check out the July 14th Livestream video below to see this modern marvel in all its four-wheeled glory:

Considered to be “…unquestionably, the most dramatic remake” Honda’s ever produced, the all-new Accord is setting its sights on another year of best-selling stardom. Although we can’t welcome the 2018 Accord into the Kuni Honda family until fall, we’re certain it’ll be well worth the wait. Here’s what you can expect from this completely redesigned Accord when it arrives at our Honda dealership near Denver, CO.

Breaking Down What’s New for 2018

Having done away with the heralded coupe model, the 2018 Accord is primed to remain the quintessential family sedan. But transitioning from two doors to four is just the tip of the iceberg with this all-new car.

The Accord’s traditional stylish nature is now speckled with sporty cues and premium materials. A longer wheelbase (2 inches) gives the car a wider, more athletic stance, which contributes to better handling. Sophisticated LED lights bookend the front and rear, and its sleek silhouette offers appeal not often found in this affordable midsize sedan segment.

Its seductive characteristics are amplified threefold thanks to a few all-new turbocharged engines (the first turbos for Accord):
  • A base 1.5L turbo is equipped on the lower Accord trims and produces 192 hp and 192 lb.-ft. of torque. Married to the industry’s finest CVT or the Accord Sport’s 6-speed, this engine is a work of art.
  • The 2.0L turbo with i-VTEC® technology is fitted into Accords near the top of the roster. It generates 252 hp and 273 lb.-ft. of torque, which is the highest torque output the Accord has ever seen. It pairs with a 6-speed manual or an all-new 10-speed automatic, which is another first for the Accord.
  • The other power plant is a 2.0L Atkinson cycle engine that will be exclusive to the upcoming Honda Accord Hybrid. Its compact design allows for a new battery pack to sit underneath the Accord’s floor, which translates to best-in-class trunk space.
The magic starts under the hood, but the cabin is where the act develops into a full-fledged performance. Lower cowls and thinner A-pillars provide exceptional driving visibility. New driver-side gauges and a “head-up display” on the three-tiered instrument cluster are opening acts, with the Accord’s premium touchscreen display being the headliner. To appease the masses, Honda also incorporated the tried-and-true tuning dials and volume knobs along the bottom lip of the screen.

On the tech front, the 2018 Accord is a corporeal form of the future wrapped in ultra-high strength steel and aluminum. Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ make their way onto the menu, as does a wireless charging pad, 4G LTE Wi-Fi with over-the-air updates, and “effortless Bluetooth phone pairing.” To couple your smartphone via Bluetooth, lightly tap the device to the Bluetooth icon and, presto, you’re set.

Of all the changes seen in the 2018 Accord, the most significant may very well be the standard inclusion of Honda Sensing across all Accord trims. In addition to autonomous emergency braking, the new Accord will also come with road-departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control, collision-mitigation braking, lane-keeping assist, and Traffic Sign Recognition systems. Top safety ratings, meet the 2018 Accord.
