As far as reliability, comfort and style are concerned, it doesn't surprise Kuni Honda in the least to see the Honda Pilot come out on top. What may surprise some Denver area drivers, however, that in a recent contest put together by Cars.com, the Pilot was named one of the best three-row SUVs for families.

The "$37,000 SUV Shootout" put the 2012 Honda Pilot up against some of its toughest competition - including an Explorer, Durango and Highlander - and let some of the toughest critics (a family of four, the Kochs) take it on an extended road trip.

The test, set up by Cars.com, USA Today, and MotorWeek, compared seven major players in the SUV market. Automakers provided the vehicles, and they came equipped with manufacturer chosen features and options. Anything was eligible, as long as the total package price of the vehicle came in under $37,000.

We're happy to report that the Honda Pilot not only made it through with exceptional grades, it came out on top. According to critics, "The Pilot remains a nice balance of size, roominess, efficiency and versatility," and "The Pilot is a winner for me because of the high level of quality and comfort teamed to all the great entertainment features. I'm not sure how you beat it."¹

What are the features that makes the Pilot unbeatable? Let's start with the third row of seats that, unlike most cars in its class, is roomy enough for adult passengers. But, you can stow the second and third row of seats for up to 87 cubic feet of storage, and there are plenty of storage pockets and bins throughout the vehicle. It's powered by a 250-hp 3.5-liter V6 engine, with a variable torque management system and available all-wheel-drive system. To top it all off, the Pilot gets an EPA-estimated, best-in-class 18 mpg city/25 mpg highway.
