After Honda showed up at the LA Auto Show with the production model Honda Fit EV, they let some lucky people take it for a spin around the Twin Ring Motegi Race facility in Japan during their pre-Tokyo Motor Show press event. And it seems that Honda has a pretty cool electric vehicle in store for us.

What can you expect from the EV-variant of the popular Honda Fit? Well to start, the electric motor pumps out about 123 hp and 189 lb-ft of torque, and its powered by a 20-kWh lithium-ion battery pack. Honda was shooting for a range of about 100 miles on a single charge, and got pretty close with an EPA-estimated 75-mile range.

It will feature all of the things that have made the Honda Fit such a popular model, with the addition of a battery pack, mounted underneath the vehicle. According to Car and Driver, "It's a decision that resulted in a floor that's three inches higher than the convential model's but the Fit's cathedral ceiling meant that we didn't notice the reduced headroom."¹

Rumor has it that the Honda Fit EV will start to arrive next summer in select markets.
